Episode 11: Depression and Anxiety

CW: Depression, suicide, anxiety triggers.

This week we talk about our experiences with depression and anxiety. We discuss the different ways it manifests in our own lives, healthy and unhealthy coping mechanisms, and therapy. With therapy we try to remember our first sessions and what it’s like now, along with touching on access to mental health and what healthy coping mechanisms look like when you don’t have access to professional help.

Below are hotlines we refer in the podcast, and below those are some apps for mental health care in the digital era. Thank you for listening, and look out for us every other Wednesday on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Stitcher!

The apps Talkspace and Betterhelp were recommended to us by one of our favorite mental health advocates, Julia Valdez. Of them she said, “You can do a free trial with Betterhelp, and they offer discounted counseling services for those who need it. I used Talkspace for a while and loved it. Super convenient, and you can upgrade to video sessions, and even do couple’s counseling there.” If you need more resources like this, especially in California, please email us at thisisuncomfortablepodcast@gmail.com, and we’ll share with you the lists we have.
